INSTRUCTOR

We are seeking mentors who enjoy being positive role models for children, lead by example with the Earth in mind, and have a strong desire to engage students in hands-on learning with their environment.

This position involves teaching multiple grades using Waldorf-inspired lessons. Instructors are responsible for creating and leading activities based on our nature and academic focus each year. While we provide guidance on what to teach, we also encourage staff to take initiative and make lessons resonate deeply with students.

We are looking for creative, forward-thinking, and motivated individuals to grow and expand with our organization.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 8:30am -3:30pm plus a Thursday Staff Meeting TBD and Special Event Participation at 3 events per year

Salary: Negotiable, based on experience. The pay period is bi-monthly for the duration of 10 months (September - June). Pay is issued by check or electronic funds transfer.

Location: Our program is entirely outdoors in Nevada City.

Qualifications: Ideal Candidates have most of the following attributes:

  • Teaching experience with groups of children 7-15 years of age,

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions,

  • Comfortable sitting on the ground, swimming and getting dirty,

  • Comfortable handling insects and other small creatures,

  • Interested in further growth in Waldorf studies, naturalist studies and mentoring,

  • A nurturing, loving, creative and positive attitude,

  • Dedicated to developmentally appropriate practice and aware of developmental needs of young children,

  • Observant and communicative,

  • A strong team member,

  • Experience in elementary or middle school education

  • Experience with outdoor/nature based mentoring

  • Some knowledge of local flora and fauna

  • Familiarity and/or experience with place-based education, ecological literacy, project-based learning, and child-led learning

  • Experience with ancestral and primitive skills

  • Physically fit, able to crouch, dig, climb, hike, and carry up to 40lbs

  • Have reliable transportation (public transit is not near all of our locations)

  • A working cell phone

  • Ability to pass criminal records check

  • CPR and Pediatric First Aid Certified or willing to obtain such

  • Experience and access to a computer
