12 Connection Questions
Each day at Ohmapi, we begin with a connection question. These questions serve many purposes and enrich our classroom community in meaningful ways. They:
Give kids a chance to talk about themselves
Helps them build confidence in sharing their own experiences
Encourages self-expression and personal storytelling
Allows them to feel seen, heard, and valued
Allow kids to air their own thoughts and practice critical thinking
Prompts them to reflect, reason, and form their own opinions
Helps them learn to articulate ideas clearly
Supports healthy cognitive development through open-ended thinking
Provide practice speaking in a circle setting
Builds communication and public-speaking skills
Teaches turn-taking, active listening, and respect for others’ voices
Strengthens the sense of community and shared space
Help them learn more about their classmates
Deepens friendships and understanding among students
Encourages empathy by hearing different perspectives
Shows kids the many ways we can be similar and different
This routine has become one of my favorite parts of our day. Below is a list of 12 questions you can use to spark connection with your little one. Enjoy!

Would you like to be the president of the United States, why or why not?
What changes do you notice in nature since ____(fill in with the last season)____?
What is your favorite thing about your very own body?
Share one thing that makes you smile. One thing that makes you cry. One thing that makes you feel loved.
Share something that you can only do when it rains
What does it mean to have wisdom? And how does one become wise?
What skill would you like to have or what do you wish you could do better?
What was your favorite moment of today, and why?
Who is someone you enjoy spending time with, and what do you like about them?
If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
