Mornings: Academics Through Nature
Mornings focus on bringing core academics to life outdoors. You’ll learn how to weave reading, writing, science, history, art, and critical thinking into meaningful nature-based experiences using the forest as your classroom.
You’ll Explore:
Storytelling & Story Circles
Learn how to source and craft nature-based stories that introduce concepts in science, math, ecology, and history. Practice storytelling techniques that invite children to retell, illustrate, summarize, and deeply engage with what they’ve learned.
Songs, Rhythm & Movement
Discover songs, chants, and movement-based activities that support language development, numeracy, coordination, memory, and emotional regulation while learning outdoors.
Nature-Based Games
Explore field-tested games that encourage observation, teamwork, ecology, self-regulation, and problem-solving through play.
Hands-On Learning Activities
Create immersive activities where children measure, map, build, draw, experiment, and engage directly with the natural world in ways that make learning tangible and memorable.
Nature Journals & Documentation
Learn age-appropriate approaches to journaling, writing, sketching, and documenting learning through main lesson books and nature observation.
Afternoons: Nature Skills & Outdoor Confidence
Afternoons are devoted to deepening your own relationship with the natural world so you feel grounded, capable, and confident guiding children outdoors.
You’ll build practical, transferable skills while learning how to safely share them with children in engaging and developmentally appropriate ways.
You’ll Explore:
Tracking & Animal Signs
Practice slowing down, observing the landscape, and reading tracks and signs as living stories you can explore alongside children.
Bird Observation & Bird Language
Learn to recognize patterns in bird behavior and calls while using birds as tools for awareness, listening, curiosity, and storytelling.
Plant Identification & Herbal Awareness
Get to know local plants through sight, scent, texture, and observation while learning simple, safe ways to introduce plant knowledge to children.
Whittling & Safe Knife Skills
Develop comfort and confidence using carving tools while learning clear safety practices, routines, and beginner-friendly projects for supervised youth.
